As the weathers keeps warming up, it’s tough to ignore those school-is-almost-out jitters that never seem to go away no matter how many years you’ve been out of school. We know that summers are notoriously the most difficult months to stay focused, but we’ve got a challenge for you – maximize your time this summer! It’s probably been a few months since you’ve set your 2015 goals, but don’t let them slip through the cracks.
It’s time to work hard, and play hard! Here are a few tips to help you stay motivated this summer:
1. Don’t waste daylight. There are only 24 hours in the day, but make sure you are making the most of them! Get up early and take advantage of every hour of the day! These long summer days won’t last forever, so keep your head down while you are in the office, so you have a chance to get out and enjoy it after work.
2. Manage Your Time. Bogged down at work, but still want to make sure you get an hour by the pool? Schedule it! Well, don’t just schedule your tanning hours, but your entire day. While you’re grabbing that first cup of coffee – take a look at your day and write down what you are going to do in 30 minute increments. Keep it realistic, but go into the day with clear expectations and stick to them. Of course – life happens, but creating routines helps you hit your targets.
3. Hold each other accountable. The best way to stay on top of your goals – tell someone about them. Ask a colleague or friend to keep you accountable. Not only will you be more likely to succeed if you know others are counting on you, you’ll have someone to share a toast with when you reach your goals!
4. Set milestones. Those goals you set way back in January might still seem too large and daunting to be relevant. December is still seven months away, right? Break it down – if you haven’t already. Set smaller milestones to keep you on track and motivate you along the way. You don’t just wake up and run a marathon one day – set a schedule, train, and make it happen.
5. Reward yourself along the way. It’s important to celebrate wins along the way. Close a major deal or finish a large portion of a project – make sure you recognize yourself and your team for a job well done.
6.Schedule actual time off. Everyone gets spring fever. Whether you hit the open road or just book a mini staycation, make sure you schedule some actual time off this summer. It’s important to relax and rejuvenate so you are ready to hit the ground running when you are back in the office.
